Rolling in the Sushi Rolls

Ever heard of Spam sushi? If not, you are missing out. Seriously. It’s yum. You get just a tiny hint of salt when you eat the roll that hits the spot. Not sure what Spam is? I’ve talked about it before. It’s basically canned meat, which sounds gross, I know. But fried or grilled, it’s a fun and crazy treat.

My daughter decided that it was time to learn how to make sushi rolls, so we invited over a friend of mine to guide us through the process.

Overall, a successful endeavor and quite delicious. We tried the aforementioned Spam, crab, and smoked salmon. We had some cute little cucumbers, avocado, and green onions to dress it up. And for dipping fun, we tried ginger slices, soy sauce, wasabi, and Sriracha mayo.

We had lively discussions about the merits of ginger slices. I can eat the ginger on all day, all the time, without the sushi rolls. My daughter is of the opinion that ginger slices are best left unsliced, unpickled, and untouched 😀

Here are some pictures of our process. Seriously, if you have not tried Spam sushi, you should.
